Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to achieve closing poker table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He won a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best bettors in the world. While competing in net poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus frequently competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen usually buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I know Gus is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has little or no reason to sit at the game with the min buy in.

Buying in for the min takes almost all of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is assumed to be 1 of the best players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total dollar value. I believe tv can skew our view of the real world at times. The best poker players anywhere in the world could be guys you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen competing in net poker on Full Tilt. He commonly competes in high stakes omaha hold’em and hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his abilities in cash games?
