Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to achieve closing game in three of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest gamblers in the world. While gambling on online poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus often competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus generally buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all-in. I accept that Gus is an excellent poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has no reason to sit at the table with the min buy-in.

Playing for the min takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the full amount. I think tv can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world might just be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen competing in net poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in big stakes omaha high and Holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his abilities in money games?
