Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player in the world by quite a few of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn whatever he could about poker. He would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the negative feedback from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

He began playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an undying love for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
