Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve final game in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a big pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best gamblers anywhere in the world. While competing in net poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He frequently plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen generally buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all in. I believe Gus is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is broke, he has no reason to sit at the table with the min buy in.

Playing for the min takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be 1 of the best poker players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amount. I believe tv can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The best poker players in the world might just be players you have will not have heard about. Gus can be seen competing in internet poker on Full Tilt. He usually participates in big stakes omaha hold’em and hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in money games?
