Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to achieve closing game in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest players in the world. While participating in internet poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus frequently competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all in. I know Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is penniless, he has no reason to settle at the game with the min buy-in.

Playing for the min takes most of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is accepted to be one of the greatest players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full dollar value. I think television can alter our view of the real world at times. The best players anywhere in the world might be guys you have never heard about. Gus can be seen competing in net poker on Full Tilt. He commonly participates in high stakes omaha/8 and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his talents in cash rounds?
