Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative feedback from other people destroy his dream of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.

He started playing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable love for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Although Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
